1892 - Manuel Roxas y Acuna, the First President of the Philippine's Third Republic, is born.

1610 - Jupiter's innermost large moons are discovered by German astronomer Simon Marius; however, it will be Galileo who will officially report his independent discovery of the same some six months later.

1959 - The popular Cuban revolution headed by Fidel Castro deposes dictator Fulgencio Batista from power.

2002 - The Euro, official currency of the European Union, begins circulation in 12 countries of Europe.
