1660 - Filipino rebels during the early Spanish colonial period capture and ransack the village of Bagnotan, Lingayen under the leadership of Don Andres Malong.

1890
- Sioux chieftain "Sitting Bull," champion of the cause of Native Americans, is murdered.

1961 - German National Socialist officer Adolf Eichmann is sentenced to death in Israel for his role in the deportation and mass extermination of millions of Jews during World War II.

1989 - A demonstration in communist Romania is held and will later become a popular uprising that will commence the decline of dictator Nicolae Ceausescu.
