1896 - The trial of Mariano Ordenanza and revolutionaries from Bicol and other parts of the Philippines during the Spanish colonial period starts in Manila; Ordenanza will be meted 20 years in Bilibid prison while others will either be deported or be executed at Bagumbayan.

1890
- The United States Army massacres 146 Sioux Indians at Wounded Knee Creek, the final major chapter of the Indian Wars.

1975 - A radical new British legislation gives women the right to equal status and pay.

1996 - Thirty-six years of Guatemalan conflict is ended with the signing of a peace accord.
